Dear Sir,
Through the columns of your esteamed daily. I would like to give an account of the damage caused by an awful flood in our locality.
Damage caused by an awful flood
The flood that has taken place recently in Khulna Division has broken all the records of the past. Never before did water level rise so high nor was the duration so long. Normal activities have been stopped for a long time. Thousands of people have known no bounds. Crops have been greatly damaged. Herd of cattle have been washed away. Thousands of people have taken their shelter on roof tops. boats and embankments. They are now living under the open air.
Moreover, flood has already begun taking many human lives. Cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid, dysentry etc. have broken out here and there. They may turn in an epedemic form at any time. The affected people now need food, clothes, medicines, pure drinking water. The government and other organizations should come forward with help to redress the miseries of the affected people. Relief camps should be opened. Loans should be given so that they can run their family again and save their lives from a sure death.
I would, in the circumstances, draw the attention of the government and other organization to extend their helping hands to the flood affected people of this area immediately to lessen the sufferings of the people.
Truly yours
Tamanna Rahaman
